DC Watch Order
Every DC movie & show in order
Every DC movie and show worth tracking, split into animated and live-action. Groups run in release order, except the DC Animated Universe, which is in story order. Each title shows its U.S. release date, where it streams right now (checked on JustWatch), and an eBay link to compare Blu-ray prices.
Streaming lineups change often. We list subscription and free-with-ads services shown on each title's JustWatch US page on the date checked (rent/buy and live-TV apps left out). Tap through to confirm before you subscribe. 110 titles.
Animated: movies & series
Three continuities plus the standalone films and other shows. The DC Animated Universe (the Timm-verse), the DCAMU and the Tomorrowverse are separate continuities; the standalone films each stand on their own.
DC Animated Universe (Timm-verse)
The shared continuity that began with Batman: The Animated Series (1992) and ran through Justice League Unlimited (2006), plus the movies set in it. Listed in story order; the date on each card is its release date.
Story order: This list follows the community story order from r/dcanimateduniverse: Mask of the Phantasm sits with Batman: The Animated Series, the later Batman-show movies come after Justice League Unlimited, then the future-set Batman Beyond, The Zeta Project and Return of the Joker. Save Justice League Unlimited's episode "Epilogue" for the very end, since it ties back to Batman Beyond. Mystery of the Batwoman and Batman and Harley Quinn are stories from the Batman-show era, so you can also watch them right after The New Batman Adventures. Static Shock and The Zeta Project join through crossover episodes. Justice League vs. the Fatal Five's place in the DCAU is open-ended, but Bruce Timm considers it canon. Prefer release order? dc.watch lists the DCAU by release date. Not included: Superman: Brainiac Attacks (2006) uses the Superman: TAS look but is not DCAU canon (it is under Standalone), and Teen Titans (2003) is its own continuity.
16 films, from The Flashpoint Paradox to Apokolips War. Release order shown.
Story order: Release order works as a watch order, with a couple of tweaks. The World's Finest viewing guide keeps release order and places Constantine: City of Demons right after Justice League Dark. dc.watch's story order moves Throne of Atlantis before Son of Batman, puts The Judas Contract before Justice League Dark (then City of Demons) and moves Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay after Batman: Hush. Either way, watch The Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen back to back. After Apokolips War, the short DC Showcase: Constantine: The House of Mystery (May 3, 2022) is a narrative sequel to it and helps set up Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths, per Wikipedia. Constantine: City of Demons stays right after Justice League Dark, as The World's Finest places it.
The DCAMU's second story arc: 10 films from Superman: Man of Tomorrow to the three-part Crisis on Infinite Earths.
Story order: Story order follows release order. The three Crisis on Infinite Earths parts close the arc, so watch them last and in order. The short DC Showcase: Constantine: The House of Mystery (2022) sits between The Long Halloween and Beware My Power in The World's Finest order; Wikipedia also calls it a narrative sequel to the DCAMU's Justice League Dark: Apokolips War.
Notable one-off DC animated films (mostly DC Universe Animated Original Movies), in release order. Each works on its own. A few connect: Superman/Batman: Apocalypse follows Public Enemies, Justice League: Doom follows Crisis on Two Earths, and Batman: Death in the Family is a tie-in to Under the Red Hood. Mask of the Phantasm and Return of the Joker are in the DC Animated Universe section.
Rumored, not confirmed. Reports from the trades and insiders. These may change or never happen.
Nothing we can source well enough to list right now.
Live-action: movies & series
The Snyder-era DCEU, James Gunn's DCU, and the standalone Batman films. Each group is its own continuity.
Snyder era / DC Extended Universe (2013-2023)
From Man of Steel to Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, in release order, plus Peacemaker season 1. Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021) is a separate director's version of Justice League (2017).
The new DC Universe, Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Creature Commandos is animated but counts as DCU canon.
Story order: So far, release order is story order: Peacemaker season 2 is set after Superman and after Creature Commandos season 1, and Man of Tomorrow (2027) is set up by Peacemaker season 2.
Burton and Schumacher (1989-1997), Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy (2005-2012), and Matt Reeves' Batman Epic Crime Saga (The Batman and The Penguin). Separate continuities.
Moved from Oct 1, 2027 in July 2026. Filming paused in early October 2026 while Matt Reeves attends to a family matter; Steven Soderbergh is helping finish principal photography. As of Oct 15, 2026 the date hasn't moved.
